Treasurer Tim Pallas has announced that the ban on evictions and rent price increases will be extended until March 28, 2021 for Victorians. The moratorium had previously been in place until the end of this year.

Mr Pallas further announced that the residential tenancies dispute settlement system will also be extended until March 28, 2021.

A once-off rent relief grant for struggling tenants had been increased from $2000 to $3000. And more Victorians will now be eligible for that grant, now that applicants need to have under $10,000 in savings, when previously it was less than $5000.

Mr Pallas also confirmed that landlords who reduced rents for hard-hit tenants would continue to be eligible for a 25 per cent discount on their land tax into next year.

It’s great to see that more fine tuned measures continue to be implemented to ensure the government help packages are received by the ones that need it most.
