The Victorian Government has approved four new high-rise projects, including what will become the country’s tallest residential tower. Surpassing Eureka and the almost completed Australia 108 Collins st.
This is part of an incentive to boost construction work to prop up a pandemic-damaged economy.
Planning Minister Richard Wynne stated they were looking for projects that are shovel-ready, have the requisite experience backing them, and have finance in place—they want work to commence in the next six to twelve months, not years from now.
However, Government Officials insist that these projects were not fast-tracked, and were approved using standard processes.
The four projects in question are the $2 Billion Southbank by Beulah tower, a $1.5 Billion office at 555 Collins Street, a $650 million office also on Collins Street, and a $300 million apartment tower in Flemington.
Premier Andrews had previously mentioned that he believed construction would play a vital role in helping Victoria’s economy recover, and it appears that the Andrews Government is taking action to make it happen.
