Construction will play key role in COVID-19 recovery

According to the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, construction will play a major role in Victoria’s economic recovery following COVID-19.

He stated that once we get through the current crisis, we’ll need the biggest construction boom in the State’s history. He also emphasized the importance of protecting jobs and creating new jobs to make sure that we bounce back from this as strong as possible.

According to Andrews, the State budget, which was originally due on the fifth of May but has been postponed until later this year, will give the Victorian Government an opportunity to assess where the greatest needs are.

Andrews’ comments follow similar statements from Federal Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Minister Michael McCormack, who shared the vital role that infrastructure projects play in maintaining the long-term economic health of regional communities.

McCormick went on to say that “We’re powering ahead with vital infrastructure projects because we understand just how important investments are to regional economies in this difficult time.”

Construction has been declared essential under stage three restrictions, with new guidelines introduced to the sector, which have been agreed to by a number of unions and industry associations.
